Dr. Lawson is a Professor of Surgery and Pathology, Vice Chair of Research, Program Director of the Surgical Research Residency, and the Medical Director of the Department of Surgery Clinical Research Unit, which oversees all clinical research activities in the Department of Surgery at Duke University. Dr. Lawson is an active physician-scientist, he is clinically practicing vascular surgery and actively pursuing basic, translational and clinical research activities in his laboratory. Dr. Lawson has pursued his career long interests in the fields of blood coagulation, vascular biology, and vascular surgery via his continuous studies, both scientifically and clinically, in his laboratory. He has become a leader in the field of vascular translational research and his laboratory has successfully developed a number of molecular, cellular, and tissue engineered technologies through translational animal studies to first-in-man clinical trials. Dr. Lawson has over 20 years of surgical experience creating arteriovenous dialysis access. He has published extensively on the topic of arteriovenous access and is currently on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Vascular Access. Dr. Lawson is the founder and Chairman of the Board of InnAVasc, a company dedicated to vascular access innovation.
